What do you girls think about the patch as a contraceptive? I know it does not protect against ST D's.?
The Ortho-Evra patch has been implicated in a large number of DVT's (deep vein thrombosis) in the women who use it. DVTs are extremely serious and can lead to death. In fact, perfectly healthy women with no history of problems have developed DVTs while using the patch.
While the Pill also carries this risk, that risk is slightly less, as long as the third-generation pills are not used. Recently, some clinical studies have been released which have proven the link between increased DVTs and the use of the low-dose pills containing desogestrel.
It's better to stick with the oldies in terms of the pill. Ortho-Cyclen has been around forever and has the least side effects of all of the others combined.
Additionally, it's important to note that all hormonal birth control options carry the potential for side effects. Some women have more than others. But some things to look out for include: hair loss, depression, mood problems, loss of libido, weight gain and sore breasts, among other things.
I've heard that the Ortho evra patch has caused really serious health issues. Better stick with something more well-established like the pill.
the patch has really big side effects and you gain alot of weight
